Evidence — PostTap Creator Onboarding Flow (reverse-engineered)

📸

Captured from Button/PostTap's own live Creator Onboarding doc + the two creator portals (screenshots, 2026-07-01). This is the exact manual flow the usebutton 2.0 rebuild replaces and automates. Treat as the as-is baseline for the de-manualization ladder.

Anchor: 00 · What Button Is

The two portals (as-is)

  1. Main Button platform — retailer / publisher / advertiser side (usebutton.com).

  2. PostTap creator portal (creators.posttap.com/login) — creator-facing. Tagline "Quickly and easily create shortlinks." Auth is Login with Amazon (creators authenticate with their Amazon account). Installable as a mobile app.

Both get rebuilt and unified in the new app.

The manual onboarding flow (from PostTap's own doc — "Welcome aboard. Let's get your first campaign live.")

Framing: "Four steps. A few links. We handle the rest."

  1. Accept the collaboration request — Button pre-sends it; creator accepts.

  2. Create a PostTap tracking ID — in Amazon Associates: Tools → Manage Your Tracking IDs → Add Tracking ID → name it (e.g. posttap-20) → Use Selected → Create. *Critical constraint noted in their doc: Amazon tracking IDs only attach to individual product links — not storefronts, idea lists, or shoppable photos/videos.* This is the exact friction the browser plugin removes.

  3. Send 3 post options — for each: IG post link (live), video file (download link, rights confirmed), Amazon link (individual product link with the posttap tracking ID), ad caption (~25 words), ad headline (~5 words).

  4. Add reporting access — add Button's emails as Reports Access users in Amazon Associates (Account → Account Settings → Manage Account Users → Add Users). Contacts captured: John Karr Heavey (creator), stephanie.magur@usebutton.com (Button team).

"Two things that move the needle" (their creative guidance):

  • Make the path from ad to product effortless — put ad products at the top of the storefront, no scrolling.

  • Center key visuals — IG/FB crop top & bottom of vertical content; keep titles, callouts, product shots in the middle third.

Live campaign content example (from creator Slack)

John Heavey's workspace holds ready campaign assets, e.g. an "AMAZON VIRAL SHIRT" vertical video creative — the kind of content that, in the new app, uploads directly into an opted-into campaign with compliant overlays (see the creator content-upload BuildDoc).

What this evidence drives (de-manualization targets)

Manual step today

New-app replacement

Creator manually creates Amazon tracking ID + individual product links

Browser plugin: click any product → auto-generate trackable link into Button DB

Creator emails 3 post options with 5 fields each

Creator portal upload: post assets straight into the campaign, structured

Button manually sets/enforces creative parameters

Campaign parameters + overlay conformance enforced in-portal

Button manually approves content

Rep approval workflow with per-campaign strictness (free-for-all vs. approval-required)

Reporting access added by hand

Handled by the unified auth + integration layer
