Heimlich Maneuver (12months+)

just abdominal thrusts


Infants under 12 months:

5 back blows and 5 thrusts 

1.5 inch for baby


**if infant under 12 months then in hands you do 5 back blows and then flip over into other hand and do 5 chest compressions


- CPR order: start compressions first, then rescue breaths if trained and safe to do so.
- Rate/depth: compressions at 100–120 per minute; depth is about 2 inches for adults/kids and about 1.5 inches for infants.
- AED: use an AED as soon as it’s available.
- Choking signs: note the difference between effective cough, partial obstruction, and severe choking.
- Infant choking safety: never do abdominal thrusts on infants under 12 months; keep it to back blows and chest thrusts.
- Emergency step: call emergency services if the person is unresponsive or the choking doesn’t clear quickly.
